Winter is not over yet, and it’s possible Mother Nature has another round of snow coming, so what is a better way to warm up than a nice, steamy cup of hot chocolate? We did the research; check out our favorite spots in Columbus to get a cup (or gallon!) of hot chocolate!
The Chocolate Cafe
Located in Upper Arlington, Chocolate Cafe offers everything chocolate. When ordering, you can select regular, dark, or white chocolate for your drink. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, you can choose one of their specialty hot chocolates like Cherry Jubilee, LaSalle Mint, Caramel, Mexican, Kaffee Wien, Peanut Butter, Nutella, or Butterscotch. For the adults out there, try the boozy Chocolate Café with espresso vodka or the Chocolate Corvette with dark rum. (Pro Tip: on Friday nights, they have all-you-can-eat fondue after 5 PM!).
5 Bean Coffee
5BeanCoffee is an independently owned coffee house proudly serving up CrimsonCup Coffee and loose-leaf tea since 2008. They also serve Sammy’s Bagels! According to Yelper James, “the Frozen Hot Chocolate here, will cure all the world’s problems.” With a review like that, we had to try it. James is right. A mixture of hot and cold, it tastes like no hot chocolate we have ever had before. I am a huge fan of frozen coffee, so this was right up my alley. Find them located on the east side of Columbus in Reynoldsburg.
Winans Coffee & Chocolate
Known for their delicious chocolate and chocolate products, Winans is almost a requirement for the list. We tried the toasted marshmallow hot chocolate, and our tastebuds loved it. They can also customize your hot chocolate with different flavors and different types of milk, such as almond, soy, and coconut. With three locations in Columbus (Grandview, German Village, and Dublin), this should be an easy stop to grab a drink on the way home from work or on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
Fox in the Snow Cafe
A Columbus staple with now FOUR locations, Fox in the Snow is known for its delicious coffees, hot chocolate, and breakfast pastries. You will often see a line around the block coming out their doors. Get the hot chocolate with the Cafe’s massive homemade marshmallows, and you will not regret it!
Highline Coffee Co.
Located in historic Worthington, Highline Coffee Co. opened in 2015. With every type of coffee you can think of and hot chocolate, this is a sure stop while you are in Worthington. Be sure to try one of the baked treats from The Flaky Baker while enjoying art from locally featured artists. They can customize your drink as well with things such as almond, coconut, and soy milk. And don’t forget the whipped cream!
Brekkie Shack
Brekkie Shack, opened by Columbus native twin sisters Lindsey and Lisa Rusch, offers coffee, hot chocolate, fresh cocktails, and so much more. Yelper Matt G. said, “I cannot stress enough just how great Brekkie Shack is.” Check them out in Grandview Heights on Yard St! Parking is free and aplenty!
